the slop can be more than 3-4 on a new one
and u didn't replace the tensioner
which is usually wut causes the slack

: I have used buz's method to measure timing chain slop. You know, rotating the crankshaft back and forth while watching the timing marks and movement of the distributor rotor.

: Well, I had quite a bit of slop (9 degrees) before replacement, but I was puzzled and dismayed when I still had 9 degrees of play after replacing the chain and cam and crank gears. So this means my chain will still be prone to slapping the chain guides and breaking them.

: Anyone know why the chain slop did not tighten up to where it should be (3-4 degrees) after replacement ??
