: Trying to remove my old shocks on my 88 4wd pickup and can't get the thru-bolt off. I don't have access to an impact wrench and don't want to pay money to have anyone do it. Any sugg's? I would use a cheater bar with a wrench but the space is limited by the brake rotor shield.
It is probably rusted inside the sleeve in the shock bushing. Try soaking it with some good penetrating oil like PB Blaster or Kroil and then try a little heat from a propane torch. That might help the oil work inside and the heat will also help break up the rust.
