if the chain is a tooth off it will show on the crank and cam gears
no matter wut !
if crank pulley is on tdc,
cam gear will show with CERTAINTY if it's a tooth out

my original 88 22re factory chain jumped a tooth and motor kept running
it made considerable noise
but only at idle
the noise was mostly from hitting the VALVE COVER
!!!
not the timing cover
!!
it wore a large groove in the oil baffle thingy that sits in the top of the valve cover

if chain has jumped it WILL B OBVIOUS looking at cam gear while crank pulley is on tdc
u'll haf to turn the crank probly 20 degrees or more to put the cam gear on the CAM tdc mark !!!

my last chain was SSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad off,
it made unbelievable noise
at all rpm
static chain stretch test was OFF THE OIL PUMP CRANK TIMING MARKS
!!!!!
OVER 20 DEGREES ....
!!!!!
IT RAN FINE minus a little acceleration
(cam was retarded)

upon removal:
the chain was barely stretched
i measured it with new and used chains
the gears were NOT WORN

BUT the tensioner stopped workin properly
PROBLEM FOUND !!! (using the process of elimination)
the noise wuz from chain slapping the chain guard hold down bolt head
!!!!!!!
the plastic chain guard wuz not broken
!!!!!!
(cuz the chain wuz not stretched [worn much])

one look with valve cover off will tell u if cam timing is rite or not
it will b OBVIOUS
and remember
20 degrees on the crank is only 10 degrees on the cam rotation...

canada is expensive
hav u ever thot of moving to a cheaper country?
