Transmission question

I have a 1992 Toyota 4-wheel drive with auto trans.When you crank it and put it in gear it won't move. Forward or reverse. You pull it down in H2 and drive or reverse and it still won't move. You put it in L4 and in drive or reverse and it works fine. The transmission changes in and out perfect. Does anyone have any answers to this or suggestions??? any info appreciated.
