EGR problem

'94 4x4, 22re, 155k, mods: headers, cam, exhaust

Just wondering where the exhaust gas enters the system before it reaches the EGR valve. I suspect I have a blockage before the gas gets to the EGR valve. Any ideas on how to confirm that suspicion and clean it?

EGR valve works perfectly well and has been cleaned, yet no gas is getting to the intake when the valve is open.
