Why change? It takes 2 1/2 cans - $75 dollars worth on ebay -of R12 to refill an empty system.

By November 3 cans will cost only $55 on ebay so you could stock up then if you want to.

If you convert to R134a it will cost $200 worth of parts + labor to do it properly and your system would be less reliable and durable and you would no longer be able to use the refrigerant level sight glass built into the receiver-drier.

The AC industry pushes conversions because they make double the money - first on the conversion and then later on the breakdowns caused by the conversion
